Joining your team

Find and join your teams, see how they work, and learn the inbox, keys and favorites in your first hour.

Overview

When you join a workspace that is already hiring, the teams, statuses and habits are set before you arrive. This article shows you where to look so you can find your way around them in your first hour.

If you have not accepted your invitation yet, the Start guide covers that step.

Learn how Attia is organized

A workspace holds teams. Teams own jobs, jobs collect applications, and every application names a candidate. Concepts explains each of those records and how they point at each other. Read it first, because the rest of this article uses those words.

Find and join your teams

Open Teams in the sidebar, or press G then T, to see every team you can access. The sidebar shows the Teams row once the workspace has more than one team. The Membership column marks the teams you are in with Joined, and each team you join gets its own folder in the sidebar.

You can read a public team's jobs and applications without joining it. A guest is the exception: a guest sees only the teams they are added to. A private team is different: only its members and the workspace owner see it, so it does not appear on the list until someone who manages the team's members adds you.

To join a team, open its row menu and choose Join team. Whether you see that option depends on the team:

  • On a team set to Allow anyone with access to join, every workspace member who is not a guest can join.
  • On a team set to Only invited members can join, only workspace admins and the team's leads can join. Everyone else waits to be added.
  • Guests cannot join a team themselves. Someone has to add them.

To leave a team, choose Leave team… from the same row menu.

See how your team works

Open a team's home page, select the Team actions button beside its name, and choose Team settings. The settings pages tell you how the team runs:

  • Application statuses lists the stages the team's applications move through. Each team sets its own.
  • Application labels lists the labels the team's applications can carry.
  • General shows the Application review scale the team uses to score applications, such as Stars or Rating, or Not in use if the team does not score.
  • Templates holds the pre-filled templates the team uses for new jobs and documents.
  • Workflows & automations shows whether stale applications and jobs close on their own, and when closed work is archived.

Job statuses work differently. One set covers every team, and only a workspace admin changes it, under Settings → Jobs → Statuses.

What you can change in a team's settings depends on the team's permissions and your role. Team owners explains who can change what.

Set up your inbox

Your Inbox sits at the top of the sidebar, and every Attia notification goes there. You do not have to set anything up to start getting them. Attia subscribes you when you create a job, a candidate or an application, and when an application is assigned to you. Someone who names you with @ in a comment subscribes you to that thread.

In the inbox you can mark a notification read, snooze it until later, or delete it. Filter narrows the list to Unread when you only want what is new.

Inbox covers the inbox itself. Notifications explains how to follow or mute a candidate or an application.

Learn the keys

Most of Attia can be driven from the keyboard. These are the ones to learn first:

KeysWhat they do
Cmd/Ctrl KOpen the command menu
/Search
COpen Create job
G then IGo to your inbox
G then MGo to My Applications
G then TGo to Teams
G then SOpen settings
O then FOpen your favorites
? or Cmd/Ctrl /Show every shortcut

If you want to do something and do not know where it lives, open the command menu and type what you are after.

? opens the Keyboard shortcuts sheet, which lists every key. The Help menu in the sidebar opens the same sheet.

On a team's applications list, point at a row or move to it with the arrow keys, then press Space to Peek at the application without leaving the list. Press Space again to close it.

Favorite what you use

Star a page and it appears under Favorites in your sidebar. You can star the Jobs and Candidates lists, a saved view on the Jobs list, a job, an application, a candidate, a document and a team's home page. When the list grows long, use New folder to group your favorites. Favorites covers the details.

Saved views show how your colleagues slice the work. A team's views sit on the Views page in its sidebar folder. Press G then V for the workspace Views page, which lists every saved view you can see. Each view is personal, shared with a team, or shared with the whole workspace. Custom views explains how to make your own.

See how applications reach you

Before you start adding candidates yourself, check how applications already come in. Most arrive on their own when a candidate applies through the workspace's career site. Others are added by hand, one at a time or several at once, from a job or a candidate. Create applications explains who can do that.

Every application records where it came from in its Source: Career site, Job board, LinkedIn, Referral, Outreach, Imported, Manual or Other. The team's applications list shows it as a column, and each board card shows it too, so a glance down the list tells you where your team's candidates come from.
