Editor

Format the summary, notes and messages on an application with Markdown, shortcuts and the slash menu.

Overview

You write on an application in two places. The Private summary and notes box under the candidate's name holds what the team should know at a glance. The box at the bottom of the activity feed posts a private note, or a message under To candidate.

Both boxes turn Markdown into formatting as you type, and both take the same keyboard shortcuts. The summary box also has a slash menu: type / to pick a block.

The summary box saves by itself. The Edit applications article covers who can write in it and what happens when a save fails.

Who can write where

Anyone who can edit the application can write in the summary box: a workspace owner or admin who is not a guest, or an active member of the team that owns the job. A guest can edit only on a team they have been added to.

The note box is open to more people. Anyone who can open the application can post a private note or send a message to the candidate, whether or not they are on the team. A guest can post only on a team they belong to, or on an application someone shared with them. Nobody can post on an archived application.

A code block has a language picker for syntax colours, a line wrap toggle, and Copy content.

Paste a web address and it becomes a link. Paste one over selected text and the text becomes the link.

The slash menu

In the summary box, type / to open the menu, then keep typing to narrow it. It offers Regular text, Heading 1 to Heading 4, Bulleted list, Numbered list, Checklist, Insert image…, Attach files…, Code block, Blockquote, Table and Divider.

Table inserts three columns and three rows with a header row. Drag a column edge to resize it.

The note box has no slash menu. Use the Markdown or the shortcuts there.

Files and images

A file you add to the summary box does not sit inside the text. Insert image…, Attach files…, Cmd/Ctrl Shift U, pasting a file and dropping one all upload it to Resources, the section below, which is private to your workspace. A file over 4.5 MB, or of a type Attia does not accept, is refused with a message.

In the note box, attach a file with the attach button. On a private note it goes into the note. On a message to the candidate it travels with the message.

Attaching a file takes edit rights on the application, in either box. Someone who can post a note but not edit the application can write text only.

Mentions

Type @ in a private note, or in a reply to one, to mention someone. Attia Agent sits at the top of the list, followed by the people you can assign the application to. The list marks anyone outside the job's team, because the mention will not notify them. Attia Agent covers what happens when you mention the agent.

A message to the candidate takes no mentions, because the candidate reads it.
