Insights

Chart the jobs, applications or candidates in a list, and click the chart to filter the list.

Overview

Insights draws a chart of the records in a list. Open it beside your jobs, applications or candidates to answer questions like these:

  • Which jobs hold the most applications right now?
  • How long have applications been waiting since they came in?
  • Which status are most of a team's applications sitting in?
  • How are the review points spread across a team's applications?

Insights is available on the Business and Enterprise plans. On any other plan the insights button stays disabled, and its tooltip reads Upgrade to Business to use Insights.

Open insights

Keyboard

Cmd/Ctrl Shift I opens and closes the insights panel.

Mouse

Click the insights button, the bar chart icon at the top right of the list. Its tooltip reads Show/close insights. Click it again to close the panel.

Insights opens in the same side panel as the details panel, so opening one closes the other.

Where you find it

The Jobs list, a team's Jobs and Applications lists, My Applications and the Candidates list all have Insights. On a job's page, the Applications tab has it when the job's team uses a review scale. The Jobs tab of a career site has no Insights.

Anyone who can open one of these lists can open Insights on it. Insights only reads the records in the list. It changes none of them.

Build a chart

Choose the records

The chart counts the records the list shows. Add or remove filters, or switch to another view, and the chart follows. To chart one job's applications, filter the list to that job first.

Show, Group by and Split by

Three menus at the top of the panel decide what the chart draws.

Show is the measure, the value on the chart's vertical axis. Every list offers a count of its records. A number property with values adds Total, Average, Min and Max for that property. A date property adds an Age, the time since that date.

Group by decides the bars along the bottom of the chart, one per value of the property you pick, such as one per status or one per job. A date property groups by Day, Week, Month, Quarter or Year.

Split by colours each bar by a second property, so you can see what each bar is made of. Pick No segment for plain bars. Averages, minimums and maximums cannot be split, because the parts of a stacked bar have to add up to the whole. Switch Show to a count or a total to split again.

Applications with review

On a team's Applications list and a job's Applications tab, a team that uses a review scale gets a set of measures made for review. Show offers Applications, Review points, Reviewed, Unreviewed, Application age and Applicant age. Group by offers status, job, assignee and applied date. The chart starts as a count of applications grouped by status.

Without a review scale, the list offers the same measures as any other list.

Read the chart

Bar chart

A count or a total draws a bar chart, with a table of the same figures below it. Hover a bar to highlight its row in the table.

Click a bar, a coloured part of a bar, or a row or cell in the table, and Attia filters the list to those records. Click it again to clear that filter. Changing Show, Group by or Split by clears it too.

Scatterplot

An age draws a scatterplot. Each point is one record, placed by how long ago its date was.

Aggregation draws lines across the plot. Middle has half the records above it, Top 25% has one in four above it, and Top 5% has one in twenty above it. Average is the sum divided by the count. The plot starts with Middle, Top 25% and Top 5%.

Click a column of points to filter the list to that group, and click it again to clear the filter.

Display options

The display options button in the panel holds one switch per chart type. On a bar chart, Hide empty drops the groups whose value for the measure under Show is zero. On a scatterplot, Use log scale spreads short and long ages across the axis, and it starts switched on.

Export

Open the ⋯ menu at the top of the panel.

  • Export insights as CSV… downloads the figures in the table as insights.csv
  • Export insights as PNG… downloads the chart as an image, insights.png
  • Refresh clears what you selected in the chart, and the filter it added to the list

Saving your choices

Attia keeps the panel on your account for each list: whether it is open, what Show, Group by and Split by are set to, and any filter you set by clicking the chart. Nobody else's chart changes when you change yours.

Hide empty, Use log scale and the Aggregation lines are not saved. They go back to their starting values the next time you open the panel.
